TricentAs a result of IRCHSS funding for the project Vincent de Paul: An Icon in the Making, a one year position for a postdoctoral scholar is available at NUI Galway. The purpose of the project is to deepen historical understanding of the character and evolution of early modern catholicism through study of the values and activities of Vincent de Paul (1581-1660), missionary, advisor to the French crown, and founder of the Congregation of the Mission, the Daughters of Charity and confraternities of charity. De Paul’s approach to the generation of religious and moral piety provides an important means of assessing the cultural priorities and impact of the Catholic Reformation.
