logovaticanThe Vatican site has 7 webcams installed at various points in Rome. It makes it possible to take a virtual tour without leaving your chair. There are, however, a number of other ways to make a virtual visit to places in Rome.

The basilica of St Paul’s Outside the Walls has a really good virtual tour with large images and high quality. You can rotate around and see just about everything.
There is also a tour of halls of the Vatican Secret Archives and the famous Tower of the Winds that you can now see without making a trip to Rome.
Then there are quite a few images available from the Vatican Museums. You can see the Sistine Chapel, Raphael’s Rooms, and many other things. You can do a lot here, for example, seeing in a larger image individual sections of Raphael’s Rooms or selected key paintings.
We can’t all have the good fortune of visiting Rome, but fortunately they are putting more and more available online for everyone to see.
