José María NietoFr. Jose Maria Nieto, Assistant General of the Congregation of the Mission, began a visitation to Chile on Saturday, October 24, 2009.  He will remain with us until the 26th of November.  During his stay in Chile, he will preach a retreat to the missioners of the province from October 26th to 30th.  Afterwards, he will carry out the Canonical Visitation of the province and each of its houses, in the name of the Superior General.

Fr. Jose Maria is originally from Palencia, Spain and belongs to the Canonical Province of Madrid.  He entered the Congregation of the Mission in 1972 and was ordained a priest in 1981.  In his province he worked in formation (the internal seminary) and in popular missions.  In 1999, Fr. Robert Maloney named him Secretary General of the Congregation and the 2004 General Assembly elected him Assistant General.  In this position, he has a special concern to visit the various provinces of the Congregation in the name of the Superior General, among them Chile.
This is the second time that Fr. Nieto has visited Chile, having spent some time here in 2005.
