mex01“WE NEVER WENT”, is the slogan that distinguishes us, a group of  ex –Vincentian seminarians that a few months ago began to meet now and then with the idea of generating projects to help the vicentinan family and to help ourselves as we share experiences within and outside of the seminary.

On this occasion we came together in the seminary at Tlapan on October 10-11 in order to participate in the workshop A project of hope in order to be more [human] that was directed by Father Carlos Treviñ.  The primary theme of said meeting was that of discernment.
On a sunny Saturday a small group of former seminarians (eleven in number) gathered together in this house in order to share our concerns and our enthusiasm.  Together with Father Fernando (also known as the rabbit) we shared a meal in the dining room at 7:30pm.
Father Servando Sánchez was introduced and welcomed us and spoke to us about the purpose of the workshop.  He spoke about the key elements of discernment according to Saint Vincent de Paul and affirmed the fact that all discernment is Trinitarian.
We then began our first activity that was directed and coordinated by the former seminarian Telésforo Ruano.  During this activity we divided ourselves into two groups.  Led by a compass and directions and clues with incomplete phrases we arrived at our goal … the kitchen.
During the activity there was a certain confusion with regard to the clues that were purposefully placed before us by the coordinator in order to awaken in each one of us our creativity, imagination, logic, strength, and support in order to achieve the planned objective.
Once we achieved our goal and arrived in the kitchen we found on the table different colored envelopes which contained various forms and figures that had been cut up.  We had to put these pieces together to form a rectangle which implied creativity, patience and logic (the same virtues that were necessary in order to accomplish the first part of the dynamic) — thus awakening in us the willingness to participate in the workshop.  So there we were a group of former seminarians seated at tables, stimulated to achieve our goal and objective and so we attempted to put together rectangles as quickly as possible.  The first person to accomplish the task was José Carlos López Mosqueda who was followed by Alfonso Sánchez Barreto (who was also helped by José Carlos).  We spent some twenty-five minutes in this group dynamic and this activity prepared us for the following day.
The bell rang at 7:30am to summon us to the dining room where we enjoyed a delicious breakfast.  At 8:20am Father Servando, accompanied by Father Carlos Trevviño, arrived and shared a simple breakfast.  At 9:00am we began the workshop in one of the rooms at the seminary.  An introduction was made with the words Wake up, young man, wake up! and the following questions provided us with a foundation and a guide:  What do you need in order to be awake?  What do you really desire?  What are your plans for life?
We adjusted to the presence of more former seminarians who arrived later Saturday night and early Sunday morning.  Sister María de Jesús Camacho, DC also accompanied us.
The greater part of the day was spent in giving feedback, personal reflection and participating in group activities that were directed by Father Carlos Treviño.  The following themes were presented:

    • Basic needs for growth
    • Mature and affective personality
    • Self-esteem, the key to personal success
    • Stages of human growth (knowledge and memories)
    • Search for a plan for life and personal self-realization
    • Parable of the man with a withered hand
    • The tree of our life — what fruit have we produced as a result of our characteristics, talents and charisms?
    • Messages for you and for me
    • Dealing with anger

The weekend was very enjoyable and enriching except for the fact that Emmanuel Becerra, the brother of Alfredo Becerra dislocated his shoulder and arm which he must maintain at rest for the next fifteen days.  This injury occurred during a soccer game when he was fighting for the ball with Abraham Gutiérrez.
The workshop was terminated with great joy and enthusiasm with the celebration of the Eucharist at 7:00pm.  We said farewell to one another and agreed to meet again during Holy Week next year.
XQUE We never went will be present in the midst of the Vincentian Family with optimism and plans for a better tomorrow on behalf of the poor.  The Lord has sent me to evangelize and serve the poor.
