NGO
The Congregation of the Mission is a non-governmental organization (NGO) accredited to the United Nations. The NGO Office of the CM is located in New York (NY) in the United States. On 21 May 1998, the Congregation of the Mission presented a formal petition to the United Nations to obtain recognition as an NGO associated with the Department of Public Information (DPI) of the UN. On 2 December 1998, its petition was approved. This official recognition as an NGO offers us the possibility of getting involved in problems which are in harmony with our mission. We can participate in issues like social and economic development, and the promotion of peace and human rights. “Our principal nterest is to work with the DPI, in different nations, in order to raise awareness about the poor and to help implement programs which work to eradicate poverty.” Fr. Joseph P. Foley, C.M, is presently the official representative of the Congregation of the Mission at the UN. Visit the web site
