General Assembly (1998)
Our Final Document states:
“We are entering into an era of information technology which brings with it unrecognized, and therefore even more insidious forms of poverty. If the poor remain without access to information technology, they will be further marginalized and locked into a cycle of poverty.”
The fifth and final commitment of the General Assembly challenges us to use creatively the new means of communication as powerful tools to create the conditions for collaboration with members of our Vincentian Family, and foster actual collaboration with this expanding “circle of solidarity.”
New Means of Communication. Final Document. Commitment n°5 Freund, J. Vincentiana 1999-3
FAMVIN.ORG has been developed in response to the call of the 1998 General Assembly. It is actually a series of websites in various languages and is intended to serve as a portal to information relating to the world wide Vincentian Family. It is sponsored by the Congregation of the Mission as a means of fostering communication among the more than 2 million followers of Vincent and Louise.
More specifically it serves as a daily newspaper of the Vincentian Family, a repository of historical and current documents (Vincentian Encyclopedia) and place where people can exchange ideas on ministry in the Vincentian tradition as well as learn of new techniques and trends in the use of media in their ministry. It has recently added a section specializing in formation materials.
