Jair do Carmo Sales Suares, C.M. writes, “I hope that my message will reach the confreres as a Gospel summons: “You lack only one thing: go and sell all you have. Give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then, come and follow me.” (See Mk 10:21). That is, to arouse in our confreres, wherever they are in the four corners of the world, a missionary awareness of Brazil, a mission country.
“My testimony is that of a Brazilian priest of the Mission, about thirty-two years old, ten as a Vincentian, and five as a priest. I will celebrate my anniversary of ordination this coming ninth of September. For this reason, I speak with all my heart, since I have within my soul a missionary call, which was born in the Prelature of Cametá, the “Berceau” of the Dutch Vincentians and Daughters of Charity fifty-three years ago in this Brazilian region of the Amazon. All that I am and all that I learned about evangelization exists because of the modest and unselfish life they led in the midst of poor country people.
