In this third video at the beginning of the Jubilee Year celebrating the 400th anniversary of the birth of the Vincentian Charism, the Superior General holds Vincent’s sandals in his hands.
He suggests we think of the sandals that Moses had to remove before the burning bush (Exodus 3:1-7).
He also reminds us of the words of John the Baptist when he says, “I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals” (Mark 1:7).
In this case also, the sandals are “holy ground” because they invite us to look at the misery of the oppressed people.
These sandals take us to today. They take us to all those who today move from one continent to another. They make us walk toward those forced to leave their lands, their homes, their family; toward those displaced because of violence or poverty; toward those who become outsiders, refugees, migrants, while walls are raised and borders are closed.
