Representative of the Congregation of the Mission NGO at the United Nations

MANDATE

Appointed for a term of four years, the Representative of the Congregation of the Mission NGO speaks in the name of the Superior General to form a bridge between the voices of the poor and the tables of power. He is also to update constantly the Congregation of the Mission in an effective way concerning the areas of justice, peace and integrity of creation. He will arrange that confreres are trained for advocacy at the local and national levels. He will foster collaboration with other religious and non-religious NGO’s to advance the agenda of Catholic Social Teaching. He will be the international coordinator of the VIN-JPIC.

Reporting to the Superior General, the Representative of the CM at the United Nations serves as the institution’s focal person at the United Nations. The Representative coordinates the Vincentian International Network for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (VIN-JPIC). Under the Representative’s direction, the office of the Congregation of the Mission at the United Nations serves as the main instance for international political advocacy of the Congregation on behalf of the Poor and the planet, a work deeply connected to the essential values of the Vincentian Charism. The Representative also serves as the institutional liaison of the CM with different Catholic and non-Catholic movements like REPAM, Talita Kum, Catholic Movement for the Planet, JPIC etc. Because of the unique nature of this position’s responsibilities, the Representative must be a member of the Congregation of the Mission whose own values, and the expression of those values, aligns with the Congregation’s identity, mission and values as we continue to think of ourselves as members of the larger Vincentian Family.
