The Spanish language site of CMGLOBAL has posted beautiful Spanish language videos of the beatification of the 60 martyrs of the Vincentian Family.

The entire program organized by the Preparatory Commission for the beatification of the 60 martyrs of the Vincentian Family, and the Province of San Vicente de Paúl – Spain, which alsoThe program that was organized by the Preparatory Commission and by the Province of Saint Vincent de Paul (Spain) not only enhanced the participation of the many pilgrims but also helped the participants “to live” these events.  The celebration began with solemn Vespers on the eve of the Beatification.  This time of prayer was led by Father Tomaž Mavrič, CM, superior general and included the presence of the Visitors of Spain, the Visitors from the European Provinces, priests and brothers, the superior general of the Daughters of Charity, representatives from the various branches of the Vincentian Family and family members of the martyrs.

On that same day, November 10th, there were other activities: the presentation of the Musical, the First Step, the showing of a film Red de Libertad (A network of freedom), the story about Sister Helena Studler.  There was also some welcoming ceremonies in the Provincial House of the Daughters of Charity and a Prayer Vigil that was prepared by members of the Vincentian Marian Youth.

On the following day, November 11th, we all participated in the celebration of the Eucharist during which the sixty martyrs were declared Blessed.  This ceremony was presided by Cardinal Angelo Amato, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saint; concelebrants included eight cardinals, the Papal Nuncio, twenty-eight bishops, and about one hundred eighty priests (the majority of them, members of the Congregation of the Mission).  About 3,500 people from the various branches of the Vincentian Family and family members of the martyrs also participated in this Eucharistic celebration.  A wonderful choir and orchestra accompanied us in our singing.

After the beatification, the members of the Province of Saint Vincent de Paul (Spain) offered a wonderful luncheon to the pilgrims.  This was followed by the presentation of the musical, Sandalias de viento (Sandals of wind — Translator’s Note: “sandals of wind” is a literal translation of the words; perhaps there is another meaning in light of the message of the presentation but since I am not familiar with this musical I have simply provided a literal translation).  There was also a musical concert in honor of the martyrs and this concert was given by the choir, Voces Graves (Serious Voices).

On Sunday, November 12th at 10:30 a Eucharistic celebration of thanksgiving was offered in the Cathedral of Santa María la Real de la Almudena.  At the conclusion of the celebration, the superior general, Father Tomaž Mavrič offered some words of thanksgiving and reminded us of Saint Vincent’s words:  That is what a good Christian is made of, and that is the courage we must have in order to suffer and die, when necessary, for Jesus Christ (CCD:XI:290).
