Official reports say that 397 people were rescued, with 104 of them taken to a hospital. More than 500 hundred people in total were injured from a disaster that struck during the most important family holiday in the Chinese society, the Lunar New Year eve.
On February 10, 2016, or three days after the earthquake I went to the spot with one of our were established hours after the earthquake was happening. The pioneer of this charity work was a parishioner surname Tjai, a member of our parish. He himself arrived on those area just one hour after the earthquake. He was able to help and save some people from the “Weiguan Jinlong” building. At the momentwe have many volunteers who work to distribute some basic needs, for the military, fire fighters, and other professional persons.
The volunteers are not permitted to enter to the collapse building. On February 13, 2016 all the volunteers should withdraw from the spot. At the time being, the bishop of Tainan Diocese said that those who want to help should direct it to one of the foundation (catholic “BO AI” foundation). Three of the founders of this foundation are also our parishioners. Attached are some pictures that I took from the “Weiguan Jinlong” building and catholic center for rescue at that place.
