International Formation Center

The International Formation Center Saint Vincent de Paul (CIF)

The CIF offers courses to priests and brothers of the Congregation of the Mission. He also orders some courses to the other members of the Vincentian Family.

HISTORY OF THE CIF.

The idea of Continuing Formation in the Congregation was initiated by Saint Vincent de Paul himself. In the first Assembly held in October 1642, a second formation was proposed after 6 or 7 years of initial formation. The idea was good, but it worked irregularly. For a time it was called “renovation seminary”.

The General Assembly of 1992 decreed a new program of Ongoing Formation. The theme, in general terms, is in our Constitutions and Statutes: The formation of ours must be continued and renewed throughout life. (C # 81) Under the leadership of the Superior General, a first formation team emerged. Composed by John RYBOLT as Director. Its Deputy Directors were Jean-Pierre RENOUARD and Luis Alfonso STERLING. The first session of ongoing formation took place in 1994.

Where is it done?

The place of these meetings is the Mother House of the Congregation of the Mission in Paris. Although it is not Saint Lazar (it no longer exists), it is the House that contains the greatest connection with the life and ministry of Saint Vincent and the Congregation. In the main chapel rests the body of Saint Vincent de Paul (1581-1660). In addition, from there you can know the places of the Vincentian Family in Paris and France.

What is its content?

The program has remained the same essentially, faithful to its principles. It is basically 1) A reflection on the Biography of Saint Vincent de Paul and the history of the Vincentian Family. 2) The study of the different aspects of the Moral Theology and Spirituality derived from Vincentianism. 3) The inclusion of practical and current issues of the Vincentian ministry. 4) The effort to find solutions to the problems that afflict the poor of today. We believe that these four points must go together.
In each meeting we reflect on our vocation, life and ministry. Each topic, in principle, is presented by a speaker. Through simultaneous translation groups that speak English, Spanish and French can coexist. A CIF can be made temporarily for people who speak other languages. The ultimate goal is to enrich our vocation as Vincentian missionaries.

Who directs it?

The responsibility of the CIF lies with the Superior General of the Congregation of the Mission. The team consists of the Director, Fr. Dr. Andrés R. M. MOTTO, CM and as deputy director, Fr. Emmanuel TYPAMM, CM.
