On June 15, the Superior General of the Congregation of the Mission told the Visitors, and soon after all the missionaries of the little company the initiative to provide a helping hand to people who have been most affected as part of the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Father Tomaẑ Mavriĉ, CM, wrote: As the weeks and months go by, while the pandemic decreases in some countries, but in others it continues to grow, where sorrows and sufferings in the world are very present, we want to stay on the front lines, in total harmony with our charism, being inventive and seeing what else can be done for our brothers and sisters.

For this purpose, a total of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) have been allocated, which will be distributed in subsidies of up to ten thousand dollars ($10,000) among the provinces that require financial support in order to serve the poorest who suffer the consequences of the pandemic.

This initiative cam about thanks to the fundraising campaign that was done by the Vincentian International Mission Services office (VIMS), When did we see you? … an effort inspired by the biblical text of Matthew 25. The intention is to raise more funds to continue helping those affected by the current pandemic.

In this way, the Congregation of the Mission is able to take advantage of the current difficult situation in order to enter a time of revitalization of its identity, as proclaimed by the theme of the 2022 General Assembly. This is accomplished through service on behalf of the poorest who have been victims of the socio-economic effects of COVID-19, and through fidelity to its vocation to follow Jesus Christ the evangelizer. of the poor.

The Superior General stated: Using words from the book of Revelation, “I make all things new” … it is in this precise moment of grace that we have been given here and now that we are invited to reflect, pray, and meditate on what Jesus means with His words that “I make all new things” … what are the meaning of those words on a personal, community and congregational level … the Superior General.
